About the workshop

This virtual workshop is a continuation of the NOAA series of workshops on “Leveraging AI in Environmental Sciences.” The third event continues the successes of previous workshops and encourages participation by scientists, program managers, and leaders from the public, academic and private sectors who work in AI and environmental sciences. The theme for this year’s workshop is “Transforming Weather, Climate Services, and Blue Economy with Artificial Intelligence.” This year’s workshop is led by the NOAA Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI), a program in the formulation stage.

All time listed on this page is Mountain Time (UTC-6) by default. You can change to your local time zone on the right side of this page. Questions regarding the workshop can be addressed to ai.workshop@noaa.gov. View the participant handbook for how to navigate the workshop technology platforms.

Registration for the workshop is closed and this page is viewable to registered participants only. Please do not share your access code publicly.

Aaron Sweeney

CIRES and NCEI
Water Level Data Manager
Boulder, CO
Dr. Sweeney is the water level (coastal tide gauge and deep-ocean bottom pressure recorder) data manager at the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, in support of the NOAA Tsunami Program, since 2014. He has spent the past decade in oceanographic data management, developing quality-control tools and metadata generation processes to work with datasets for the UNOLS Rolling Deck to Repository and the IODP Site Survey Data Bank projects. He uses a variety of software tools and programming languages, among them Python and Javascript, to make it easier for people to discover and access data. While at NCEI, his work with timeline visualization (https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/hazard/dart and https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/hazard/tide) has led to the identification of gaps in the archive of water level data and the rescue of data to fill those gaps. He also has had the pleasure of teaching introductory physics to undergraduates for several years. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2489-6695
